RESONATE Lisbon / The Sound & The Urban

Normally in media there are just “noise” debates about traffic, (club) music, neighborhoods, construction sites and chaotic urban lifestyle etc. but not in the sense which sounds they are creating more in the way of saying how to reduce them. Well it is of course a fact that unwanted sounds are perceived as noise but noise is not just only noise. Sometimes it is more that we have forgotten how to discover our urban surroundings not just with our eyes, but also with our other senses for example through our ears.

On February 12th, MAAT and reSITE will bring world’s best creators of sound spaces and
acoustic experiences to Lisbon. During a one-day international event in collaboration with Berkeley, California’s Meyer Sound, the conference will give a platform for thinking about sound and space with architects of the most fascinating contemporary music and culture venues and designers of intriguing sound environments. Artist-led tours, innovative technologies, demonstrations and performances will be part of the event, on top of keynote lectures and discussions with editors from leading global media.

The MAAT – Museum of Art, Architecture and Technology is becoming the new cultural proposal for the city of Lisbon. A museum that crosses three areas in a space of debate, discovery, critical thinking and international dialogue. An innovative project that puts in communication a new building, designed by Amanda Levete Architects architecture studio, and Central Tejo, one of the national examples of industrial architecture of the first half of the twentieth century, and one of the most visited museums in the country.
